Understanding Breast Cancer: Key Insights
- Breast cancer caused an estimated 670,000 deaths globally in 2022.1 It is the leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide accounting for 1 in 6 cancer deaths.2
- Of over 1,2 million new cancers diagnosed in women in 2022, 29.4% were detected in early and advanced stages.2
- Half of all breast cancers occur in women with no specific risk factors other than sex and age, while 0.5–1% of cases occur in men.1
- In the European Union (EU), 374,800 women were diagnosed with breast cancer, resulting in 95,800 deaths in 2022.2
