Jiayue Ren
Senior Clinical Research Associate
Where are you located? What geographical region(s) do you cover?
I am based in Shanghai, China, supporting clinical research activities across China.
How long have you been working in the area of clinical research?
My clinical research journey began in June 2022, learning the fundamentals of being a CRA, including how to work with study sites, coordinate study activities, maintain compliance and communicate effectively across teams. Since then, I have progressed from CRA 1 to CRA 2, and then to Senior CRA in September 2025. This means I have been working in clinical research for more than four years.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is working closely with investigators and site teams. I enjoy understanding their challenges, helping them identify risks and finding practical solutions together. It is very rewarding to see a site become more confident and efficient as our partnership develops, and to know that my support can make a meaningful difference to study delivery.
What has been interesting about your work in clinical research? Did anything surprise you about the patient population?
One thing I find particularly interesting about clinical research is that every study and every site brings a different perspective. Behind every protocol are real participants, dedicated investigators, and many people working together to ensure that the research is conducted responsibly. I have been especially impressed by the commitment of participants and site teams, who contribute their time and effort to help advance medical knowledge. This has reminded me that clinical research is not only about processes and data; it is also about trust, responsibility and collaboration.
What are you most proud of in your work?
I am proud to have become a trusted collaborator to my sites and study teams, while taking on greater ownership as my career has developed. What keeps me motivated is the opportunity to keep learning and to contribute to research that may ultimately make a difference for patients.
