"description": "This Fortrea case study explores how an ultra-rare disease clinical trial was successfully delivered within a competitive rare disease trial landscape during a global Phase III study for limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2I (LGMD2I). The study involved significant recruitment challenges related to limited patient populations, competing LGMD2I clinical trials, protocol modifications, and operational coordination across 21 sites in eight countries. The case study highlights how rare disease patient recruitment and patient recruitment for LGMD2I trials required a structured global recruitment strategy for rare disease studies combined with operational flexibility and early collaboration with investigative sites. Fortrea implemented an operational strategy for ultra-rare disease studies that included advocacy group engagement for recruitment, site relationship development, enrollment planning, and ongoing coordination across study stakeholders to support recruitment continuity throughout the trial lifecycle. By integrating rare disease patient enrollment strategy activities with global operational support and neuromuscular clinical trial management, the approach strengthened recruitment execution and supported timely delivery of the Phase III ultra-rare disease clinical trial."
